I have a series of undated the photos. The first three show soldiers all wearing bush with bushcaps. I've dated this to be 1963 as the soldier is holding up a copy of the May 1963 Playboy. That discovery came only after exhaustive google searches!
Its great to get an email from a former member that contains another story from our past history. I believe that this is the style of truck that was referred to in the following charge report, “In that he, L/Bdr Carswell, did take one 1953 Panel truck on a joy ride and did strike a tree causing damage to the right front fender. L/Bdr Carswell shall be reduced in rank to the rank of Gunner effective immediately. No costs shall be assessed”. The one in the photograph is from a 2013 photo when it was purchased by a restorer.
Recruiting has always been at the top of the Regiment's priorities. A Reserve unit has a high turnover that has often been blamed on poor resource allocation and dull training. Lieutenant Graeme W Stewart drew up an excellent recruiting poster in the mid 1980s .
Graeme was a very talented cartoonist who passed away too soon. Regimental Museum is looking for other examples of his artwork. It's been a while since the Vancouver Artillery Association has had a member attend the RCAA Annual General meeting, possibly never! The VAA Association President will attend both the RCA Board and the RCAA presentations. Throw in a Special Guest Night and it promises to be a great Gunner weekend in our nation's capital, Ottawa, Ontario.
Anyone else planning to attend? The brochure from the unveiling and dedication of a plaque for the restoration of the No. 1 gun emplacement at the Point Grey Battery on 20 April 1991 has been uploaded to the 1991 Yearbook. Were you there?
